Hi, everyone! My name is Katie Nedvidek and I live in Danville, KY. What do I love to do more than anything? Talk. Do people always listen? No. Should I start putting my thoughts online so anyone and everyone can read them and I don’t have to deal with the rejection? Duh. I know what we’ll talk about- women. Gals. Dolls. Chicks. Battleaxes. Dames. The whole shebang. Let’s be real- we’ve come pretty far thanks to the suffragettes and several generations before us…but how far is far enough? The object of this blog is to explore a couple of things: just really how far equal rights can take us in the workforce, the home, in public office and in everyday life. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that women are still super oppressed and are expected to be perfect soccer moms with only three brain cells, but really, aren’t we? Just a little? Here’s a few questions I have: why, after all of this time are there still so many misconceptions about women in positions of power? Why do the media think that all we want to learn about is lipstick? Are we still considered weird or unbalanced if we chose careers over children? Get real. What are we doing about this? Have we given up? Are we settling? NOTE: please don’t mistake this as a “man-hating, liberal, rant about my problems” website. When I say equal rights, I mean equal rights. I honestly believe that one day (probably in the very distant future) we will live in a society where everyone is genuinely equal. Naïve much? Without a doubt. But I’m serious- I see it out there, hanging out with Qui-Gon Jinn. It will happen. But how? What can we, the women of the now do? So, tell me what you think, feel, want, hate, love—anything. I’m all ears.
Through this website you can also check my weekly special “Woman of the Week”. In this I plan to search out outstanding women in the community and give them the recognition they deserve. I hope you all enjoy reading and feel free to contribute!
